Getting ESL online with course management systems

Sharon's Examples

  • Making Blackboard accessible for low level students:
    • Clear directions with screen captures
    • Changing the entry page
  • Classroom use – Groups/ Centers
    • Students can work on activities together in class that have been posted in Bb.
      • Students use the SmartBoard instead of huddled around one screen. Also easier for instructor to see what group is doing.
      • Immediate feedback during group time when teacher is somewhere else.
      • Selective release controls the order of the activities.
    • Individual computer time
      • Selective release can be used for differentiation.
      • Laptop lab means not everyone must be on computer at once.
